What does the Band do during the Summer?

What does the Band do during the Summer?  Well, the answer is that we do what we love most - play music!  We meet to practise right through the Summer, learning new tunes and keeping our established repertoire fresh and sparkling.  And we love to share our music with you too.  Have you ever considered any of the following?

  • Summer is a fantastic time for a celebration ceilidh - a big birthday, for example, or a wedding anniversary - and we love to play for those
  • It's also a break from regular routines and activities.  Maybe an opportunity to fundraise for a charity you are passionate about?  A ceilidh works well for that too
  • Or what about an outdoor event - are you organising a fete?  A show?  Need some music?  We can help

Ceilidhs are for everyone.  All ages and all abilities.  Our wonderful caller, Dave, teaches every dance.  So everyone can do it, no matter whether you are an experienced folk dancer or a complete novice.  It's great fun - and great exercise too.

If this sounds interesting, Have a Listen or get straight in touch via our Book the Band page.  You won't regret it!

It's still Summer!

It's still Summer in Grange-over-Sands.  It must be, because the Sands Band is playing for a Summer Fair.  It's on Saturday 20 September at Bridge House Residential Home, Flookburgh, LA11 7JS and we are playing from 1.00 to 2.15 p.m.  Do come along and help us help them to raise money for a new Summer house.  You see?  If it's a Summer house it must still be Summer!  QED.

Marching on

Welcome March and the beginning of Spring! The month starts with St David's Day so we're marking it with a Welsh tune. It's called "Morfa'r frenhines" which we (not being fluent in the language) understood to mean "The Queen's march". That seemed odd as it's a waltz but it's a good tune and we like playing it.  But now we stand corrected.  Morfa doesn't mean march at all! A Welsh morfa is a saltmarsh, just like ours here in Grange. So maybe The Sands Band becomes Band Morfa if we travel south and over the border? Click on the video to hear the tune.

ABC ceilidh

No, it's not a refresher course on the alphabet.  It's an invitation to the Allithwaite Bowling Club ceilidh at the Allithwaite Community Centre on 26 July 2025.  Come and join the dancers keeping on their toes to music by Grange-Over-Sands' very own Sands Band.  Don't worry if you have never been to a ceilidh before.  Dave Rogers, our caller, will explain how it all works and will call the steps for every dance. All the details you need are on the poster.  Do come along - it will be fun!
